Help Us Support Oldham’s Women, Young People and Families

For more than 30 years, Fatima Women’s Association has been at the heart of Oldham’s communities, supporting women, children and families across Glodwick, Alexandra, Roundthorn and beyond.

What began as a small group of local women running sewing classes from their homes has grown into a trusted community organisation, providing practical support, education, training, wellbeing activities and opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged members of our community.

Today, the need for our services is greater than ever.

Many of the families we support are facing significant challenges. The ongoing cost of living crisis continues to place enormous pressure on households already struggling to make ends meet.

Rising food, energy and housing costs are particularly affecting single-parent families, low-income households, older people, refugees, asylum seekers and newly arrived migrants.

Many also face language barriers, cultural barriers and social isolation, making it difficult to access the support and opportunities that many of us take for granted.

At Fatima Women’s Association, we work every day to ensure that nobody has to face these challenges alone.

What We Do

Every week, our centre welcomes women, children and young people from Oldham’s diverse communities, including Global Majority communities, refugees, asylum seekers and migrant families.

Education and Training

We provide English language classes, digital skills training and accredited learning opportunities that help women gain confidence, improve their employment prospects and become more independent. For many women, overcoming language barriers is the first step towards accessing services, supporting their children and participating fully in community life.

Health and Wellbeing Support

We deliver wellbeing programmes, fitness sessions, workshops, information sessions and peer support groups that help reduce isolation and improve mental and physical health. Our weekly activities for older women provide friendship, support and opportunities to stay active and connected.

Activities for Children and Young People

We offer cookery sessions, sports activities, arts and crafts, educational workshops and programmes that promote positive choices and personal development. We also provide vital awareness sessions covering issues such as online safety, anti-social behaviour and community cohesion.

For many people, Fatima Women’s Association is much more than a community centre. It is often the first place where they feel welcomed, understood and supported. It is a safe space where women can build confidence, families can access help without judgement, and children and young people can learn, grow and thrive.

Why Your Donation Matters

As demand for our services continues to grow, we rely on grants, partnerships and the generosity of local people to keep our doors open.

Every donation, regardless of size, helps us provide essential support to women, children and families who may otherwise have nowhere to turn.

£5 could provide materials for a children’s arts and crafts session.

£20 could help fund an English language class, supporting a woman to overcome language barriers and take steps towards greater independence.

£50 could support a community wellbeing workshop, helping improve mental health and reduce isolation.

£100 could help provide activities and support for families experiencing financial hardship during the cost of living crisis.

Oldham is home to vibrant and diverse communities, but many families continue to face significant disadvantage. Your support helps us provide a warm welcome, practical assistance, opportunities to learn new skills and a stronger sense of belonging for people who need it most.
