Our Services

Children and Young People

Throughout the year, children and young people at Fatima Women’s Association take part in a wide range of creative, educational, and recreational activities designed to build confidence, improve wellbeing, and develop new skills. These include cookery sessions, Arts Award projects, health and wellbeing courses, multi‑sports, arts and crafts, and a variety of outdoor adventures. Our programmes are designed to support personal growth, encourage teamwork, and provide safe, positive experiences beyond the classroom.

We also deliver important awareness workshops covering issues that directly affect young people today, such as anti‑social behaviour, drugs, vaping, crime, online safety, and keeping girls safe in public spaces. These workshops help young people make informed choices, understand risks, and develop the confidence to stay safe and support their peers. Our approach blends education with practical guidance, ensuring young people feel empowered and listened to.

During school holidays, children and young people benefit from exciting outdoor learning opportunities as well as visits to local and national heritage centres, theme parks, and other places of interest.

A group of 18 young people proudly completed their Silver Arts Award in partnership with Peshkar Productions, celebrating creativity, achievement, and developing their artistic talents. Over half the young people went onto the Gold Arts Award.

Children and young people’s

Children and young people in our community face a range of challenges that can impact their mental and physical wellbeing, including social pressures, limited opportunities, and a lack of safe spaces to express themselves. Many families sought support to help re-engage their children in positive activities that would build confidence, improve social skills, and strengthen emotional resilience. In response, Fatima Women’s Association created a welcoming environment where young people could participate, learn, and reconnect with others in meaningful ways.

To meet this growing need, we reached out to vulnerable and underserved children and young people and offered a diverse programme of activities designed to support their development. These included multisport sessions, cookery, gardening, arts and crafts, recycling projects, drama and presentation skills, creative writing, hair and beauty, taekwondo and martial arts, as well as health and wellbeing workshops. Each activity aimed to build confidence, spark creativity, and provide a sense of belonging, allowing young people to explore new interests and realise their potential.

Alongside creative and recreational activities, we delivered awareness sessions focusing on issues that directly affect young people today. These workshops covered drugs, vaping, crime, personal safety and wellbeing, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions. By creating open, supportive spaces, we empowered young people to discuss challenges openly and gain practical tools to navigate everyday life more safely and positively.

Thanks to the commitment of our staff, volunteers, and local partners, these programmes continue to make a significant difference in the lives of children and young people across Oldham. We remain dedicated to offering safe, inclusive opportunities that help them build resilience, develop new skills, and stay connected to their community.
